Please join us to celebrate the re-opening of Tassafaronga. First developed in 1945 as housing for war workers, the site was obtained in 1955 by the Oakland Housing Authority. In 1964, an 87-unit public housing development was constructed that, over the years, became distressed and obsolete. In 2005, the Authority started planning to revitalize the site. We look forward to celebrating the re-opening of the expanded 7.5-acre development that now houses 137 mixed-income rental units and 20 supportive housing units for families who are affected by HIV/AIDS. All of the buildings at Tassafaronga are seeking “LEED for Homes” Platinum Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
