How can I sign-up for Section 8?

Individuals and families can only apply for Section 8 when the waiting list opens. Generally, the waiting list opens every few years.

Click here to find out if OHA is accepting applications for Section 8 or other affordable housing programs. You can also call (510) 874-1500 periodically to find out if any of our waiting lists are open.

When OHA plans to open the Section 8 waiting list an announcement will be made on this website, in the local newspapers, and with local community-based organizations.

When OHA accepts applications, applicants will be selected for the waiting list by lottery. To receive assistance, the applicant's total household income must be below OHA's Income Limits.
