A Message from the OHA Executive Director on the Federal Government Shutdown
October 02, 2025
On September 30, the Federal 2025 Fiscal Year ended without the passing of a Fiscal Year 2026 Budget Appropriations package, triggering a federal government shutdown this morning.
What this means for the OHA community:
OHA will not be required to cease operations during this federal shutdown.
- OHA-provided housing assistance and services will continue uninterrupted until further notice.
- Based on communication from HUD, funding is in place to assist all OHA families during October 2025.
- We are aware that any delay in funding can create ripple effects that impact families, property owners, and local businesses throughout Oakland, and we will continue to monitor these impacts so that OHA can adjust as needed.
The OHA commitment:
- OHA will continue our efforts to provide quality services, collaboration, and compassionate customer service
- We will continue to keep the OHA community informed as the situation evolves.
- OHA is working with our local, state, and National partners, like NAHRO, CLPHA, and CAHA to track progress and advocate for our local, state, and federal programs.
